In this literary work Leo Tolstoy created the tragic portrait of a woman fighting for her happiness, and in the end giving in. What is revealed as the reason for her downfall? Anna makes a calculated decision to leave her husband and this brings with it the lack of happiness in her family. Her husband does not treat her as a person; she is only his wife - that means a being without spiritual needs. In this situation the fact that Anna falls in love with a man of society with whom she can feel like a genuine woman seems normal. From this point on, Anna?s wonderful life does not in any way begin. Her tragedy deepens. This is the tragedy of a person trying to achieve personal happiness. Anna, leaving her husband, also leaves her deeply loved son. Divorcing her husband, she would also entirely lose her son. On the other hand, if she does not do this, she has no chance of happiness in her new marriage. There are two beings fighting within her: woman and mother. And although it seems to us that the woman is winning, the mother never gave up. There is no way out of this situation: each choice is a manifestation of selfishness either to Vronski or to her son. Anna chooses life at Vronski's side but doesn?t find the happiness she expects. She holds onto her feelings for Vronski as a last hope, which leads to jealousy and to complaints and quarrels. A sad fate faces the woman who for the sake of her own happiness lost more than she gained.
