The 5th Horseman
(Paetro, Maxine; Patterson, James)

Publicidade
After obtaining an Advance Reader's Copy, I only had one question after finnishing the book, 'James, what have you done?!' Two very different murder stories are on Lt. Lindsay Boxer's Agenda, and she feels the need to leave her office and hit the streets as a detective again. The story showed nice consistancy with the character's (such as Jacobi's set-backs due to his injuries sustained in 4th of July. The book spends most of its time in the courtroom, and can get boring at times. It is also very relavant that Maxine Paetro was writing the story, as James' own voice is lost from what was seen in MARY MARY. Definately not as gruesome, and too much time was spent on Yuki, the newest member, who at times, doesn't fit into the story. (If three's a crowd, than what does 4 make?) She is very annoying to read about at times, and her role in the story does not suit her very well (playing vigilante, for instance). What makes the Alex Cross books so interesting is that you can count on hearing from the killer every 8 chapters or so. 5th Horseman spent most of its time with Boxer and Yuki and we rarely ever heard from the killer, or a killing for that matter. James Patterson may have sold the rights to his work, or 'collaborated' with Maxine, but in doing so, he lost his voice, style, and thrilling quality that went along with his work. This book does not even compare to the Alex Cross books. Get rid of the commercialization, and quit collaborating, make Maxine, Andrew and Peter De Jonge write their own books for a change. If you take this on the airplane, leave it in the terminal after you land and forget about it. These books are flat, What ever happened to the magic in Patterson Writing?
