The Da Vinci Code
(Dan Brown)

Publicidade
Anything which bears more than just traditional outlook

creats curiosity. So can be said about this book. The

author

here has introduced a some interesting pagan
elements

found

in Bible and Christianity itself.Robert Langdon is
a

symbologist driven by a quest for knowledge and
truth

like

the mythical illuminattis.He,accompanied by

Sophie,grand

daughter of La curator,Luvre, sets off to unfold

a "historical truth".The very title suggests
Vinci's

involvement in codifying and keeping the secret
very

specially hidden in his famous portraits;openly but

wisely. Was Jesus married to Mary Macdalene who gave

birth

to a famale child in France? These are the long
debated

questions and the author has tried to establish

these "revolutionary" juxtapositions through Robert

Langdon. And we also find out an extremely
interesting

interpretation of the "Last Supper" painting where
the

V

sign created between Jesus and his companion
(Langdon

argues

who is Macdalene herself) actually celebrates the

feminine

power("shakti" as called in Hinduism),furtile
womb,and

the

symbolic incarnation of Holy Grail. The book
positively

says

Jesus'character developed different shape in
different

versions of Bible. The deep rooted fundamentalism
has

been

abhored. The book is unturnable. You have to finish
it in

one

reading.I mediaeval barbaric attitude in the name
of

protecting religion and the holy Cross has been also

discussed.

The book is interesting no doubt.New generation
from

other

religious backgroung also(like me) are also
compelled

to

read Bible to understand this book. That's the what

globalization stands for.

I have some personal thoughts about this book.

1.The language is tough for those who learn English
as

a

2nd or foreign language.

2.The "must read" reference book is Bible here.

3.Being acquinted with Hinduism I personally
believe

that

while Brown describes many religions as the
worshipers

of

mother goddess, the furtility rituals and nature

celebrations.He should have atleat mentioned

Hinduism.No

where in present world all these above mentioned
traits

can

be best observed as in Hinduism where both the holy

mother

and son are worshipped together as Yashoda and
Krishna.

4.The book is in some places so identical with Brown's

another best seller "Angels And Demons",it is sometimes

difficult to recall which portions are in this book or
in

that book.
