In the second Three Sisters book, Ripley Todd is a sensible, no-nonsense police deputy who has no room in her life for magic or witchcraft. She left that aspect of her life behind long ago and has no intentions of looking back. The problem she faces though is that ever since she unleashed her power in order to protect Nell, her friend and her brother's true love, she has not been able to keep it locked away in the same way she used to. To further complicate Ripley's life, a handsome scientist has taken up residence on the island to study the 300 year old curse that is quickly coming to a head. He insists on working with all those involved and so Ripley cannot avoid him, no matter how much she wants to. It quickly becomes apparent that there is something very strong between the two of them and Ripley soon has to come to terms with her power and what she may be forced to sacrifice when her turn comes to set right what once went terribly wrong.
