Publicidade
Jane Eyre is a young orphan raised by her cruel aunt, Mrs. Reed, who later sends her off to Lowood school, which is managed by Mr. Brocklehurst. The girls at the school are neglected and not provided enough. Amidst the dismal surroundings, Jane manages to make her first friend, Helen Burns, who tragically dies of consumption. Jane continues to study at the school and goes on to become a teacher. Her simple world is turned topsy-turvy when she takes up the post of governess at Thornfield Hall, which is owned by Mr. Rochester. Jane initially finds him to be inhibited, but they gradually fall in love, despite the apparent difference in their class and age. He asks her to marry him, but on their wedding day, Jane learns a disturbing secret about him and makes a decision, which alters their lives.
This nineteenth century classic produces one of the most unforgettable characters ever created, Jane Eyre. She is an unassuming, plain looking woman, but she is intelligent, independent and strong-willed; almost an early feminist. This is truly an awesome book with a great plot, outstanding characters and remarkable writing.
