Joyce For Beginners
(David Norris and Carl Flint)

Publicidade
About 10 years ago I was a resident of Ireland in Dublin's Fair City! I did everything you imagine its possible to do together with my family of two sons: Trips to the famous Abbey Theatre, Writers Clubs in Dublin I even became a member of The James Joyce Society in Dublin Ireland. There was never a night when you would find me in except one - The Abbey Theatre phoned: I answered the phone: and the conversation ran thus:

ABBEY: Will you write a play?
ME: Yes!
ABBEY: Drop in it to the Stage Door!
ME: Yes of course!

Unlike the Abstracts I never discussed payment at all! My one bitter regret: thank goodness training took over as well as commonsense and now I write for the publishers cheque and royalties plus of course my salary etc!

Joyce for Beginners is a little /help/ book I grabbed when I was invited to teach Literature to Austrian students in the South of England./ I knew James Joyce backwards but alas! they didnt so I recommended snippets out of this book as follows:
The key to Joyce is language - English Language - flick over a couple of pages, avoid the cartoons if its against your religious beliefs and browse on - Joyce relies on interpretation since all his prose is cloaked in linguistic allusions, vivid metaphorical language and poetic dialogue! Dont be suprised if at first you feel totally /lost/ dont give up, keep in reading ...

Joyce like the writer herein was a Catholic and attended University College Dublin His early work still attracts the attention of the critic and it is believed that his stories were full of cliches before he achieved greatness in the history of modern literature as a great writer! His prose is said to echo classical interpretation of Icarus as it sweeps forth into great disapproval/his work was burnt by the Dublin Establishement/he became an Exiled writer and lived in Europe with his mistress The importance of the MOTHER figure is relevant according to this book in Joyce his life and works/
ULYSSES
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
are my own favourites!
Just /plough on/ until the you come out in the end possibily none the wiser but a little the richer for having read the richly produced literary work of the great Irish writer James Joyce! Our co writers line him up as follows:

Joyce is equal to:

Picasso, Schoenberg and Stranvinsky

Any difficulty the reader might have is echoed OUT in no uncertain terms! His writings are obsessively
centred on his native Dublin (Ireland) And another two books that our writers of Joyce for Beginners favour are as follows:

Finnegans Wake
The Dubliners.

This book illuminates the readers obvious hangups in relation to the density of Joyce! I have heard
Joyce read in Dublin Cafe Society - it was most illuminating just like this little book
JOYCE FOR BEGINNERS by David Norris and Carl Flint/Happy Reading!)and Pension Cheque):
