Romantica
(Barbara Gowdy)

Publicidade
Introduced in the fabulous years of Sixties, this Barbara Gowdy novel (the author of ?Fallen Angels?)talks about the childhood loneliness and the varieties of love to be found. A love that is not always full of happiness. The main character is Louise, a little girl that soon learns what the pain of abandonment means and feels like. She is just nine years old when her mother, an ex beauty queen, ?disappears? leaving a note that said ?Louise can use the washing machine?. Louise?s childhood is sliding away slowly with a father that will never overcome the fact that he was left by the woman he loved and with a aunty that is uselessly trying to find the woman and bring her back, until one moment when the little girl moves to a family where, with time, she will learn to love them. It?s about the Richter?s, an extravagant German family who immigrated to Canada. Louise gives her love and affection first to Mrs. Richter, and then to Abel, their son. The infantile friendship becomes love in their life long but through uncertain times.
