The Alchemist, among other things, speaks about the responsibility of every human being to fulfill his/her destiny. It says that every human being has a destiny to fulfill in the drama of Life. We are aware of this destiny as a child, but more often than not, tend to forget it in our journey to adulthood.

These and other messages are driven home using the story of a boy who sets out to fulfill his destiny.

This story weaves many lessons. It first tells us that each and every one of us, without exception, has a destiny to fulfill. And to fulfill these, God has already strewn omens along our path. We just have to take some time off to listen and understand these omens. When a person sets out with all his heart to realize his destiny, all the universe conspires to help him/her in his/her endeavor. And often, reaching the goal or destiny by itself, is not as important as to what we become in the process of realizing it. The troubles that we take, the lessons that we learn along the way towards fulfilling one?s life mission helps us evolve us better human beings. Just as gold evolved to be the highest metal and the secret of alchemy that transforms lead to gold is metaphorical as in it tells that through struggle, we transform and evolve into better human beings. One common strand that runs through this book is that all things are one. It brings home the Biblical message that God made man in his own image and hence whatever is possible to God is possible for the children of God. It just takes a lot of belief and courage on the part of the individual. Transformation is the key of life. Things transform and eventually have to become one with the Almighty. And each one of us is an Alchemist as we hold the key to transformation in our own lives. The book also tells us to understand and evaluate the so-called coincidences that occur in our lives and try to derive meanings from them. It speaks of the Language of the World and the Soul of the World. These are universal and a person who comprehends them comprehends all. If happiness is the most important thing in this world, then fulfilling our destiny is the only way to attain it. The entire book is tinged with a metaphysical outlook that borders on spirituality. It speaks of beginner?s luck that is a device to encourage a person to continue his journey towards his tryst with destiny. It also speaks of love without ownership. The kind of love that is total and believes that true love should actually set the person free. The book overall speaks about cultivating a heightened sense of awareness that will help one recognize the steps to be taken to achieve one?s goal.

When we set out on a thing in right earnest and with a good intention, then the laws of the universe somehow or the other conspire to help us in our path. Awareness increases capability and hence one should constantly strive to understand the evolution of oneself and focus and channelize one?s efforts to fulfill one?s life mission.
