Well, the main characters of this book are Sunny, Violet and Klaus Baudilare they have just heard that thier parents have perished in a fire. They go to live with Count Olaf who treats them horribly and calls them orphans to annoy them. They realise that Count Olaf really wants to just get a hold of thier enourmus fortune and then kill them but the only way he can do that is to marry one of them. He tries to marry Violet even though she does not want to but she hangs Sunny in a Cage hanging on a high tower and says if she does not marry him then he will drop the cage with Sunny in it but Klaus rescues Sunny when Violet has signed the paper and then burns it making it not legal but Count Olaf gets away and tries to get the fortune and kill them in 11 other books.
