Hannah's Gift
(Maria Housden)

Publicidade
One of the most life changing books I've ever read. Hannah's Gift is not a story as such but the true life account of the life of a small girl dying of cancer - Hannah. Written by Hannah's mother Maria it begins with a snapshot memory of a visit to a shoeshop which captured the very essence of Hannah and indeed probably every happy, healthy three year old girl delighting in her new red shoes and putting on an impromptu dance display for a delighted audience of strangers. That was to be Maria's last memory of life before it changed forever and a world of hospitals, treatments, hopes and fears shaped their lives.Throughout the book rather than simply detailing a chronological journey of the next 18 months or so Maria tells of single instances or moments of great joy and happiness or great sorrow. It documents how Hannah, despite her tender years and ailing health does indeed fully live her life, even in the brief months she is given to do so.The end of the 'story' is already a given, you know from the outset that Hannah will die - this is not a book with a traditonal 'happy ending'. However while it touched my heart and made me share the sorrow of losing a child with the writer it also uplifted me unimaginably. It made me glad for all I have, grateful to be alive and determined to ensure that my life - and the lives of my own children - however brief or lengthy they might be will also be lives fully lived.
