SNOW-WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS Once there was a queen. She wished to have a daughter as white as snow. Soon a girl was born to her, as she had wished. She named her Snow-white. But the queen died after Snow-white was born. The king married again. The new queen was very beautiful. She was not a good queen. She wanted that no other woman should be more beautifuly than her. The queen had a magic mirror. Every day she looked into it and asked. "Mirror, who is the fairest of all?" The mirror would say, "O Queen, you are the fairest of all." Many years went by. Snow-white grew to be a beautiful woman. The queen looked into the mirror as usual. The mirror said, "You are fair. But Snow-white is fairer than you." The queen got angry with Snow-white. She wanted to kill Snow-white. So she called a huntsman and said, "Take Snow-white to a forest and kill her. Bring her heart to me." The huntsman took Snow-white to a forest. He pitied her. He did not kill her. He left her in the forest. He killed a deer and took its heart to the queen. The queen was very happy. Snow-white wandered in the forest. She saw a small house. As there was no one inside it, she entered it. Inside the house she found milk and pudding. Sho also saw seven bowls and seven spoons. As she was hungry she ate some pudding and drank some milk. She lay on one of the beds and fell asleep. She did not know that it belonged to the seven dwarfs. After some time the dwarfs entered their house and saw her sleeping. Then Snow-white woke up and told them her story. They advised her not to open the door to anyone. She lived happily with them. She forgot her wicked step-mother. One day the queen looked at her magic mirror. She asked it her usual question. The mirror told her that Snow-white was fairer. It also told her that she was with the seven dwarfs in the forest. At once the queen put on the dress on an old pedlar woman. She went to the dwarf's house. Snow-white forgot the dwarf's warning. She opened the door. The pedlar woman bound Snow-white tightly with a strong lace. Snow-white fainted and fell down. The dwarfs came in, cut off the laces and saved her. The mirror told the queen that Snow-white was still alive. The queen wanted to kill Snow-white. She made a poisonous apple. One side of it was green and the other one was red. The red side was poisonous. The queen dressed herself as a country woman. She brought some apples in a bascket. She met Snow-white and showed her the poisonous apple. She cut a piece from the green side and ate it. Snow-white got it and ate a piece from the red side. At once she fainted and fell down. The red piece of apple was still in her mouth. The seven dwarfs came into the house. They thought that Snow-white was dead. They put her into a coffin. The next day a young prince came there. He saw the beautiful girl inside the coffin. He thought that she was alive. The dwarfs permitted him to take her his place. On the way the coffin shook rudely. The piece of apple in her mouth fell out. She got out of the coffin. She told the prince everything. The prince married her. She became the princes.
