The writer insinuates drily in Psalm 29 that the only way for the mighty to not only enjoy but also retain their might is to acknowledge the Almighty from whom all things flow. By extolling their source in this way, the mighty are proclaiming the almightiness of the Lord God. The way to do this is via genuine worship. This indicates that man, in all his glory, is blind, miserable and naked in the eyes of heaven unless and until he worships his Source, that is, the Almighty.

The Psalmist goes on to dwell on the voice of the Lord. It has to be realised that whatever God says comes from His heart, is conveyed by His voice and after it has been spoken it becomes His Word. It may therefore not be easy to seperate what is on God's heart from His voice or from His Word. For instance, being the Word of God, every word in the bible was conveyed by the voice of the Lord.

What the writer then does is to show how the Word of God covers or is applicable to every aspect of life and every aspect of Creation. The Word of God is supreme in all things. Major elements or things representing Creation and the whole of nature are mentioned all in their subjection to the Word of God. The examples we have are water, cedars of Lebanon, fire, wilderness and animals.

Therefore, according to the Psalmist, it seems that the two principal things expected of a man if he is truly to attain genuine self-actualisation is firstly to worship God, that is, to acknowledge his Source and secondly to line up with every word inspired by God. It is the only way he can achieve the mastery of life. It is the only way ' The Lord will give strength to His people; the.................'
