The testimony of the writer of Psalm 30 enables us to have an insight into the nature and character of God. In the first place, the exuberant Psalmist could not help but declare what the Almighty has done for him. It is not unusual for this man to give God the glory for any good thing that happens to him. He states that what he was going through could easily have led to his death and that his recovery was simply an act of God, a fact he was not going to take for granted. He is not unaware that his enemies could have laughed merrily if they heard that he had succumbed to illness.
The Psalmist then begins to expatiate on the nature and character of God. The first thing is that God does not hold grudges. This is because His anger endures but for a moment. Some may have aborted their relationship with the Almighty thinking that He is perpetually angry with them not knowing that God is always ready when they are ready for a reconciliation with Him. Secondly, God is always willing to oblige should anyone want to seek His favour. As His favour equates to life itself, one of the most precious things to seek after then is the favour of God. The third thing is that God wants people to depend on Him totally. Using his own experience, he states that there was a time he began to put his trust in money or his prosperity. According to him, it was not until God hid His face from him that he came to his senses leading him to cry unto the Lord again for restoration. He states that he was eventually able to convince God that if his life was spared, he would always live for the glory of God. He declares that God has now turned his situation around and gifted him with life and gladness.
