Blessed: The Autobiography
(george best)

Publicidade
In an age when football is dominated by analysis, tactics and balance sheets, it is often refreshing to remember the true origins of the game. Back in the United Kingdom in the late 19th century, the game was played solely by amateurs for their enjoyment, along with the entertainment for spectators. Todays 2-touch, or long ball culture would be frowned upon as not being within the spirit of the game. It wasn't until 1880 in the far reaches of Scotland that passing or 'combination' play was invented by players at Queen of the South. Dribbling was still the choice of most of the players for a considerable time after this revolutionary tactic.
This a far cry from today's corporate game with its 'win at all costs' attitude. For this reason it is nice remember one the the games last true entertainers who played the game for the sheer joy of it while entertaining millions around the world at thew same time. George Best was known as the 5th beatle, and Britains greatest ever player. But his greatest attributes - flair, spontanuity, adventure - proved to be his downfall this brought him down in later life, leading to his premature death earlier this year.
For all his misdemenours, Best brought joy to the lives of millions, if not always his own, and will be fondly remembered by all true fans of the game all over the world.
