The Lion, The Witch, And The Wardrobe
(C.S. Lewis)

Every child has seemed to have that imaginary friend or place that they would go to when playing, but it seems that the characters in the series The Chronicles of Narnia have found a place more real that they ever could have imagined. In the story, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, four young siblings have found a world hidden in a wardrobe that they find is not of this world. They are lead by what seems to be some outside force to this world in order to save it because of an age-old prophecy that will redeem the country of an evil curse of eternal winter.

The story begins with the all of the siblings being sent to the country to safety during the summer break at the time of the London bomb raids. Their destination is the old professor?s large mysterious house and the spare room with a wardrobe that leads into the land of Narnia.

It seems that whenever it rains and the children are stuck inside to play that the wardrobe opens up through the back full of old fur coats, conveniently, for this land of Narnia is a winter wonderland of mythical creatures and the white witch who has cursed them all with it being winter without Christmas.

The first to find the entrance is the youngest, Lucy, and soon is Edmund her mischievous older brother. After bouts of disbelief and fear of madness of poor Lucy from the oldest brother, Peter, and sister, Susan, they are all soon strangely led in to the wardrobe one day and begin a quest that will change them as well as Narnia forever.

When they first arrive they go to visit Lucy?s friend, Mr. Tumnus, a faun (a half man and half goat). To their dismay, they find that he has been taken by the white witch, the Queen of Narnia so she claims. As they go to rescue him they meet Mr. and Mrs. Beaver, friendly talking beavers who tell them of the prophecy that if two sons of Adams and two daughters of Eve sit on the thrown of Cair Paravel that all will be right with Narnia. As they realize that they will fulfill the prophecy, they also notice that Edmund is gone and determine that he has been bewitched by the food of the white witch and has betrayed them all, but is also in great danger of the witch and her power to turn one into stone.

They worry no longer after Mr. Beaver explains to them that Aslan, the true king of Narnia, is coming, and he will help them get their brother and fight the battle that will save Narnia from the spell. As they journey to meet Aslan at the Stone Table. Edmund has a journey of discovery himself and realizes that the Queen is really a witch after all, with a courtyard full of creatures that she has cruelly turned into stone, and the kingdom that he was promised will never be given to him. Not only was he in danger but his brother and sisters as well. As the witch takes Edmund to capture his family they notice that spring has come, and Edmund is rescued and taken back before the witch can slash his throat to undo the prophecy she so fears.

After a long journey to find Aslan and the encounter with Father Christmas giving them weapons and tools for the battle, they realize the spell is beginning to break and there is some hope after all. At least until, the witch comes to Aslan demanding the blood of Edmund in order to fulfill the Deep Magic, which states that a traitor?s blood is her property. Aslan, however, trades himself for Edmund, and fulfills the Deeper Magic that states that if someone that has done no harm sacrifices his life for a traitor?s death will be relinquished. So Aslan is brought from the dead, and uses his breath of life to free all the stone creatures, including Mr. Tumnus, and help Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy to defeat the witch and become the kings and queens of Narnia.
