Writer Or Gentelman To Write ?
(Charles Bukowski)
I have a friend that once bought a Charles Bukowski volume newly edited in our language(romanian).I don''t know if my friend heard about Bukowski before,but what I know is that he tried to read the volume.
Because it was in romanian,my friend never finished it:
"I feel strange reading it in romanian because I realy feel you have to get close to this guy in order to get to his point,and the first thing to do about it is reading his volume/s in their original language,in his language"
So I replied:
"Yeah,but isn''t this theory available for any foreign author?"
"It is available,of course it is,but believe me,this guy is a special case!"he answered.
My friends reactions got me curious...
So I read the volume,in romanian,and my friend was right.The funny thing is that reading Bukowski in a foreign language you can clearily realise the authors incompatibility with anything,with anybody.
Charles Bukowski is Charles Bukowski.A reader of Charles Bukowski can''t understand his writings because the writings of Charles Bukowski are a projection of Charles Bukowski,and the reader is like a spectator on Hollywood bulevard watching a bum and his strange sociopat actions.A bum can sometimes be spectacular or interesting but the watcher can''t understand the bums personal drama,because he is not in his position.
The thing is Bukowski wrights only about his self,apparently insignificant actions of his like, drinking or walking or horse races that he takes part at.All this just to make the reader understand that he can''t be understood.
Bukowski writes to earn or to warn.
After I finished the volume I never touched another because I think I understood his point.
The only question remaining is this:
Was Bukowski a writer or, was he a gentelman to write,insted of putting the simple and brutal "GO AWAY" sign on his door for us readers?
