THE RESULT OF GREED.
In a village long ago lived Betty and the cat. They lived as neighbors together in a cottage in the forest. In those days, all the animals had one settlement under the leadership of king rabbit. King rabbit was a very wise and kind ruler and as such he ensures that the entire animal kingdom lived as a family.
However in those days there was a great famine in the land. Tried as king rabbit did, he could not prevent the famine from going on. All their crops began to dry up on their farms. All the green grasses on the fields had withered away under the heat of the scorching sun and their stream and well were rapidly drying up. On top of the tall trees there were barely any leaves left.
However, as the famine prolonged most of the animals began to leave the village and other distant land I search for food. Unfortunately most of them were not able to make it and they died of starvation on their journey.
Meanwhile Betty who had a very big family of seven children and one sister had barely and flesh left on her bones. Every member of his family had become very lean. Three days had passed and his family had not had any food to eat. As a result all the children began to cry day and night. Betty was very confused. She did not know what actually to do. She now remembered that cat?s house is a few miles from his. At long last he decided to ask cat for help for his family or else they will all die of hunger.
   So Betty started his journey at dawn the following day. Some few hours later cats village could be seen from a distance. Cat was a great hunter so he prayed that he should get a piece of meat from cat so that at least he could regain so energy. As Betty got nearer to the house he saw cat?s children playing hide-and-seek on the compound. He the realized how healthy and beautiful they looked. He mustered courage and entered into cat?s house. Much to his astonishment cat?s wife was cooking ?apapransa? and a pot full of meat. Betty smell of the food filled the air and she felt jumping unto the pot to finish the food.
      Betty was given a healthy welcome in cat?s village. He ate and ate as much as her big stomach could contain. Cat asked her purpose of visiting them that morning. Betty did not hesitate at all. She told cat every bit of her story and pleaded with him to come to her rescue. Cat agreed to help him and Betty beamed with admiration. On her departure Betty had a pot full of pal wine and ?apapransa? with meat to carry home to his family. Betty on her way sat under the shade of a huge tree and ate almost half of the meat and drank almost half of the palm wine. She became drunk as result and delayed on the way to his village. She finally got home at dusk that evening. Betty then delivered the rest of the food to she sister and the went to the room to sleep. She lay motionless on her head and soon began to snore. She had a heavy sleep. It however was like a great feast on the compound of Betty. Everybody?s face was full of smiles. They were all happy. She woke up the next day very hungry because she ate too much the previous day. Her children began to frown their faces again. Not know she hid some of the food on the way when coming back home so she began her journey to go back for that food on her way going she was caught and killed by a wide and hungry beast.
