Resumo de The Last Lisbon Cabalist

The last Lisbon Cabalist it`s a romance from the North-American writer Richard Zimbler, currently living in Oporto, Portugal. It tell us a fantastic story, that if it wasn`t based in true facts whould let us more peaceful. As the text advances, the reader feels absorved by an intrigue worthy of a modern policial. Unfortunately the action is set in a time of the portuguese history that shames any citizen with the most elementar sense of justice; the unacceptable violence and religious intolerance, because of it`s origin, it provoques desconfort in the "viewer". There is a will of throw up and quit the reading. However Zimler as the craft of seduction, after the inumerous hesitations we end up peeping the pages ahead, and although suspicious we continue reading. Is with unfrightening that we are driven through the alleys of the Lisbon of 1506, the time of D.Manuel I, king Fortunate for some, coward for others, who was afraid to rescue. It was April, the portuguese jews (new cristians) obliged to convert were celebrating is easter. Guided by the dominicans, the group walked the streets of the capital killing without sorow, without the forgiveness of cristianity, rising the cross with the crucifided nazaren, they invaded houses, palaces, schools, shops, baqueris, sinagogs, hospitals, public baths, slaughtering everyone who smell themfilthy; men, woman, old and children, welty and sick, wealty and poor, were killed without Christ to stop them. There were no miracles; with the end of the orgy and the balance done, two thousand portuguese had been killed by axe or burned alive in Rossio, charged with judaism for the glory of God. Simply shocking!Is in this climat of caos and terror that the death of Abraão Zarco happens, a iluminator of the well known cabalistic school of Lisbon, he lived in Alfama. Who were the killers? Because of the historic framing of the fiction, of the facts, everything led us to believe that violence is also work of the cristians.However, Berequias Zarco, Pedro by forced baptism, nephew and espiritual heir of the old master, has doubts.Abraão turns up dead in a secret hiding place, known only by a restricted group of Cabala iniciaded, with is throat cut in a ritual maner known only by jews.Therefore the cristian theory is put aside and his distrusts are pointed to the smal group of iniciaded. His recearches led him to find that is uncle knowing that violence would be inflicted to the portuguese jews, he dedicated himself helping them to escape the country, trough a net of clandestine smuglers, is one of these smuglers that by money and fear kills the old Abraão.Berequias is already a men without fait and avenges is uncle death.With the family that was left escapes from Portugal andspend is last daysin Constantinopola.
