The Bible is composed of many odd couples. Below are just a few:
Abraham told his wife Sarah to pretend to be his sister, so that the Egyptians would not kill him. Afterwards,great plagues broke out in Pharoah's house, and he kicked the pair out.
Abraham and Hagar (his wife's maid) conceived a child at the wife's request. Sarah then fired the maid and sent her and son away because Hagar's ego got the best of her.
Rebecca, Isaac's wife, stole her eldest son's birthright, bydisguising the younger Jacob asEsau. This workedbecause Isaac's eyesight was failing.
Jacobhad to work seven years before he couldgetRachel's hand in marriage. Buthe was swindled by his uncle Laban, who substituted his cross-eyed daughter Leah for Rachel.Because of his deceit, Jacob hadto work an additional seven years.
Jacoband Bilhah, his wife Rachel's maid, slept together andhad two sons.
Jacob andZilpah,his wife Leah's maid, slept together and hadtwo sons.
