An astonishnglyfirst-rate novel and a must read for everyone, Jane Austen proves how pride and prejudicecan lead us tofalsehood.It can cause us to be blind to the real issues and cause us increasing pain if we are unwilling to search for the truth. Mr. Darcy, a vulgar male of prestigious stature will have nothing to do with anything that may cause him the least bit ofgratification, includingsomething so simple as a single dance,until he meets a young woman, Elizabeth Bennet. She, an outspoken, yet loving and gentle woman can easily put Mr. Darcy in his placewhen it is neededand has a flare for the dramatic. She misinterprets Mr. Darcy's comments as rude and arrogant, however,it is shownlater through the novel that thisbattle between he and Elizabeth is what has attracted them to one another. Elizabeth is one of five sisters who must be married off and it is her parents who struggle to find them all a better life with someone who can provide more for them than they were ever capable of. A remarkable novel, "Pride and Prejudice" shows its readers that opposites do attract, but that in the end we realize it is not opposites but sameness that is the attraction. Elizabeth appears to hate Mr. Darcy early in the novel,but later, finds herslf falling in love with him. It is not his arrogance that attracts her but the fact that they are both stubborn in their ways and in turn, are a lot alike. Mr. Darcy without intending too, falls in love with Elizabeth and is unable to keep away from her. He is drawn to her as though there is a force that is telling him that she is the one. As a reader, you will hate Mr. Darcy and later, you too will find yourself falling in love with him. You will laugh and you will cry as your eyes glide across the pages of this stunningly well written, and hopeful (not hopeless) romantic novel.
