The story told by the second wife of Max, and begins with:"Last night I dreamt I went to Manderley again" , and from here Mrs. de Winter? who personal name we don't know because it has never mentioned, except as "Mrs. de Winter".After she had married to Maximilian de Winter she told us a story of an innocent orphaned young woman who, while working as the companion to madame Mrs. Van Hopper and vacationing on the French Riviera, is meeting a man, Maximilian de Winter, marries him, and becomes a master of his house, a very beautiful castle, Manderley. Only after their came to Manderley, the new bride realize how difficult it will be to replace the first wife of Maximilian de Winter , Rebecca, who drowned, but her spirit lives in the castle and all its inhabitants, especially its housekeeper, Mrs. Danvers, who was faithful to Rebecca, doesn't forget to remind to the second wife that she will never replace Rebecca ,that she is not good enouth. Later that night, a storm leads to the ruins of Rebecca's boat being discovered. This unexpected event causes Max to tell the truth to his new wife about how Rebecca teased him with a love affairs. She demanded to be pregnant by another Man and threatened to burden Max with the responsibility of raising the child. Max, truly hated her, shot her and disposed of her body on her boat, which he sank at sea. The second wife frightened by the revelation that Max killed his wife. During the following investigation of Rebecca's death, it shoed that she had an appointment before her death,probably with a doctor to confirm her pregnancy. When the doctor had found he revealed instead, that Rebecca had been suffering from cancer, and would have died within a few months. Moreover she could never have become pregnant.
