Dream Girls
This book is base on three friends from Detroit, Effie, Deena, and Lorrall. They struggle to survive in the spotlights of music. Effie's brother C.C's breaking music and Curtis Taylor Jr. (Their manager) vision and ambition; they were making it in Hollywood. Effie, Deena and Lorrall have been singing together since twelve years old. Finally they had a chance to be stars with their song Move It that C.Cmade. Effie is the lead singer and Deena and Lorrall are background singers. They joined a singing contest, but didn't make it. Curtis Taylor Jr. step in by offering them to sing behind Jimmy Early, their chance was here. By singing behind Jimmy they move on, they had their own group, they became the Dreametts. Deena became the lead singer so they can have a new sound because Effie's voice was to strong. By this experience Effie realized the truth loyalty and love will always have to struggle to survive the spotlight?s merciless glare. During their spotlight Effie love Curtis and Lorrall love Jimmy. Effie and Curtis relationship step down a level, Effie made her move. She had a feeling that Curtis was cheating on her with Deena. Days have past without any rehearsals and practices, for Effie. Curtis moved on, him and Deena started a relationship and found a new singer to replace Effie?s spot.During a rehearsal on New Years Eve, Effie shown up.Her friends, her lover, even her brother turn away from her. She was alone with her daughter Magic living in their home at the welfare hotel, not too far from the projects where she grew up. Deena and Curtis Got married and Curtis had Rainbow Record labels. Curtis was busy building up his label with a roster of superstars, the Beat Machine, Dee Dee Dawson, the Family Funk, Martha Reed, and a phenomenal band of kid brothers, the Campbell Connection. Under Curtis?s Direction each one of those groups dominated the R&B and pop charts, with the Dreams as the center piece of all of Rainbow Records jewels. Deena was under Curtis control dress the way he told her, singing the way he told her to and talking the way he wanted her to. She loved him unconditionally and turned all the way out followed Curtis?s plan for her success to the letter.During all of this, they got married and moved to Los Angels (L.A.). Deena wanted kids, but Curtis didn?t wantany right now. He cared more about the way she look than children. So instead thishe wanted her to be in a movie. He was so caught up in his pride he forgot about their wedding. They had a unforgettable wedding with three hundred white roses, fifty doves, two live bands reporters from Ebony and Jet and four hundred guests. Deena as a leading lady,of the film about Cleopatra. She wasn?t interestedbecause the girl was sixteen though out the whole movie. Deena told Curtis how she felt. He told her that her voice he made it. That it didn?t have any personality. His idea was to have a pro-war and antiwar of young and old, black and white people can relate to the Rainbow sound. He though the reason for Deena?s voicewas so popular is that it crosses all boundaries. HoweverEffie was trying to make away for her child and her. She didn?t have anything to do; all she knew how to do was how to sing. So an old friend, Marty Jimmy?s friend had given her a chance. A while later Effie?s brother C.C left Rainbow Records because their music started not to have any meaning to it. When he left Jimmy left, C.C and Michael (new singer in the group) was still together, but Lorrall and Jimmy was though on the last night, last time Jimmy would sing. Jimmy Early has been dead for over a day, he was apparent victim of a heroin overdose. Lorral was weak to her knees for a few hours. Then she went to the corner to say goodbye, but Jimmy?s other wife Melba was there and she didn?t want Lorrall to have any thing to do with it. C.C left looking for here his sister to write her a song, he need her now then he ever needed her. He found her she sang the song and itame one of the greatest hits. Curtis found out it was at the top of the pop charts, so he fornicated her song. Effie found outso C.C, Marty and their lawyer sued him. Effie toldDeena how she been and about her child, that Curtis had no idea about. Deena knew that Curtis was using her like he owns her; all he wanted was to make money off of her singing. They went their separate ways, Curtis found new women and Deena, Lorrall, and Michael finished their DREAMS. The last song has come for the group to go their separate ways. Effie and her daughter came, and Deena notified that there were not only three dreams there was four. Effie came out singing the lead on the song, back by the beautiful gospel harmony of the dreams. When Effie eyes connected with her daughter Magic?s her heart swelled. She could feel the love her daughter had for her. Effie had taken her rightful place. In conclusion fame doe?s not come cheap!!!!!!!
