At the 800´s ends, the industrialized Europe didn´t use to fake it´sinterest by the yet virgin vaste zones of the african continent. Whileother countries were preparing their scientific expeditions to thoseterritories, Potugal went on keeping itself drowsed and holding to theunquestionable historic rights about the region. In July of 1877, majorSerpa Pinto, moved by the dream of mark the portuguese position in theafrican continent, has integrated an scientific expedition to theAustral Africa, an Lisbon Geography Society and Governamental atittude,that made him travel over 5000 km on foot. This way, portugal putitself into the organizated exploration of the african-continent. Butthey were not alone. Other european countries had strong interests instablish thenselves there as colony and consolidate possessions. AfonsoLacerda, a misterious character, had his reasons to follow Serpa Pintoin his trip.
