The Secret Garden
(F. Burnett)

Publicidade
This book is about 10-year-old Mary Lennox- spoiled rotten, selfish and ill-looking girl who after loosing her parents arrives to her uncle's great house in York Shire. The estate and the owner turn out to be very strange. Still absent landlord named Misselthwaite is a humpback. In the sullen building Mary can often hear childlike cry. She is forced to play alone. The girl even pals around with a boorish gardener called Ben Weatherstaff and with a incywincy bird ( with a purple tumtum)- robin. Thanks to the bird's help, Mary finds a key and a gate to a deserted garden, which was closed 10 years before. With a boy, Dick, who can charm plants and animals, they try to wake up that secret garden to life. Meanwhile, the girl finds the source of that unexplaint cry. It's her cousin, dandy Colin who is found incurably ill by doctors. Thanks to Mary's character, she is able to make him want to find the sense of life. They all continue to work in the garden. Colins' father comes back home and finds his changed, healthy son.
