The Three Sisters
(Anton Chekhov)

Publicidade
This play is about three sisters (as if it could be about anything else). They are Olga, Masha, and Irina. They wish to return to their childhood home of Moscow. They feel this move will turn around their lives, change things from terrible to wonderful. They open up talking about the past. They miss Moscow and how wonderful it was for them. Their father died a year ago. The story of each character slowly unfolder over the course of the play. Throughout they lament the move from Moscow. Each is unhappy in their present situation. Their brother is slowly losing everything they had. Since he has taken over the house, their lives have turned for the worse.A fire breaks out in the neighborhood. The sisters begin to understand that there is no hope of returning to Moscow. All is lost in their lives. Now they no longer even have hope. In the end they don't get what they want, they learn to accept what they have. It is an awful situation we leave the sisters in: none of them are happy, and they have given up hope. Life has reduced them to accepting whatever it gives. They feel the future will forget them and they will not matter. This is certainly a feeling that still persists in the world today.
