This is one of the strangest, most particular and fascinating books by Borges. In this type of essay which was finished through "additions" made throughout the various editions made by this author himself, the most brilliant literary operation of Borges in his first years was completed. Basically, this book allowed Borges to erase the threatening shadow of Lugones from the literary map, to find an imaginary place where he could situate his literature: the shores, and to validate a sector (precisely that which was most convenient for him, given his esthetic program) of the poetics of the lesser known poet Evaristo Carriego. This is a book that is probably for those who have a better understanding of literature, but one that should be read nonetheless.
