There Is No Such Thing As "business" Ethics(there Is Only One Rule For Making Decisions)
(John C. Maxwell)

Publicidade
In general, people are unhappy with the unethical dealings & practices followed by several persons. We may not know whom to trust. Ethical practices give peace of mind & positive results, to everyone. Even if the results are slow, it lays the foundation for future, & brings in rich dividends. Above all, it creates a good environment for success by team work. With various examples, in seven Chapters of the book, the author states that ethics is necessary everywhere, including in business. Many persons in their personal life & also many organizations, have been found involved in acts of deceiving others, for their personal or organizational gain. It shows desire to get some quick achievement, with little efforts & little inconvenience. It may be a temporary gain, & subsequent effects are not in order. Hence, now people & organizations appear to have, a desire for better ethical actions. We should be convinced in our minds that, if we do the right things competently, we will still be successful in our business. Of course, at various levels, remedial measures should also be taken & people/organizations involved in unethical practices should be punished suitably. Lasting success & happiness, can not come with short cuts. In any organization, each & every individual has to be involved in an integrated way, for doing his part in this respect. Universal guideline for integrity is, to put yourself or your organization, in the position of other person/organization, & to see, as to how you would like to be treated. We must lay down standards, follow them willingly, & have the commitment to do the right things. This will lead to excellence, growth, retention of best people in the organizations, benefits to all & reduction of harassment, so as to achieve organizational goals. The actions of all people will then be judged & valued impartially, & their opinion & views considered. It is general human nature to work, to try to excel, to be appreciated, understood, respected & trusted. This increases the confidence. Organizationally, we should continuously try to improve skills, usefulness of all employees & good human relations, so that everybody can work along together, for the good of the organization. Understanding of each other is necessary, since personality, reactions to situations & ways of working, vary from person to person. Promotion of good treatment of employees in the organization, should be ensured. If the person, or head of an organization, is a man of character, he will be able to influence others, & the organization to the right way of thinking. The author gives five factors, which make people to take unethical actions & decisions. These factors are pressure, desire for pleasure & possession, power, pride & priorities. The author advises that, before falling a prey to any of these factors, we must think, & visualize the consequences thereof, remember our family, & above all God. We may regret our actions later on, & we may lose power. We should develop our character, look for opportunities to do right things, take responsibility for our actions, develop self-discipline, know our strengths & weaknesses, admit mistakes made & take corrective actions in time. We should put family above our work. We should focus on other people & develop them, create a feeling of love & respect for them. Mere wealth does not make a man happy, & appearances are generally deceptive. Money can not buy self-satisfaction & happiness. Finally it is for us, to choose our path.
