If you look at Oxford dictionary, the word Integrity is defined as, the quality of being honest, having strong moral principles & moral uprightness. But, it is much more than honesty. It is said to be, the key to success. It is the overall good character of the person, & not just talent or ability, which leads to success. Persons with such character, cause fruitful relationships, & lead to achievement of goals. This book discusses the role of Integrity, for success in life. We must focus on character of the person, which determines the ability of the person for successfully & effectively resolving the problems faced at various times,in his organization, or in his personal life. It also includes integrating his talents for the good of the company, care of trust & attachment with other persons. Such persons not only see their own interests, but also the interests of others. A person with character, has positive attitude, gives courage & strength to others, & helps them to come out of bad situations. Such persons are very helpful in the organizations. It is always advisable to be truthful, since corrective actions which are required to be taken in initial stages, if taken, will not allow bigger problems to be created & it will save us from likely embarrassments in future. Hence we must have access to latest, complete, real, ground level situation information, however good or bad it may be, without any adulteration. Such information should be obtained by proper, independent & active means. The character should, no doubt be, to get required results, taking appropriate risks, trying out newer areas etc., but it should be in those areas, where the person can perform well & we should not put our hand in too many areas. This is possible, when every employee attends to problems in time, esp. those which are likely to become bigger in future, if not attended to, in time. Problems whether big or small, will always be there, & our character requires that these problems must be faced & resolved.
Those with character, also learn from their mistakes & failures, for improvements in future. Wholeness of character, also demands that we work hard, learn continuously, continue to improve & grow, think of new things, have desire for more & motivate other persons also to grow. We must have the ability to judge the situation, & not presume that we only are right & big. We must put values like justice, honesty, good of the people on a higher level. It is an accepted fact that, we get a feeling of satisfaction & fulfilment, when we are involved in helping a bigger cause. Finally, we should know that character is based on, & built on many factors, but we can try to learn & make changes for good reasons, & develop our character, so that we can grow in Integrity.
