Originally a BBC radio program, ?The Hitchhiker?s Guide to the Galaxy?, written by Douglas Adams, was first published in 1979. The science fiction humorous adventure tells the story of Arthur Dent and how the earthling decided to escape the planet due to immediate extinction of all life. Being warned of the mass destruction by an undercover alien friend, Ford Perfect, Arthur manages to flee from his harassers, public constructors and annihilation driven alien enemies named Vogons. Reappearing in a spaceship named Heart of Gold, the two immigrants meet Marvin, the paranoid android (whose co-name became a Radiohead?s album). In the ship they discover that supreme intelligence is owned by mice and that humans where number three in the scale of knowledge. The methodical and hairy creatures already know that the meaning of life, the universe and everything is converted to the answer ?42? they still need to find the correct question so that 42 makes sense. In order to get the question they may rebuilt a planet just like Earth, which might take as much as some thousands of years or they could just kill Arthur and dissect his brain. The twist comes when sad Marvin manages to show all the glory of his misfortune by blowing-up the entire ship by the process of making it profoundly sad and deeply depressed. After this first novel four other sequels where printed showing that it is vital not to panic and to own a guide if your travelling the galaxy.
