I think this book is wonderful, not just for entertainment, but for information, also. Whether you're into horse racing or not, this book contains not just a large chunk of history in the horse racing industry, but life in general in that time period. For those that are into the sport of horse racing, this book gives very in-depth information on the way the sport used to be in that time period. It can give you lots of points to compare how things have improved over the years. You learn a lot about this wonderful horse that maybe wasn't the greatest racehorse of all time, but the obstacles he faced, challenged, and overcome can be very inspiring. But not just the horse, himself, but the jockeys and trainers had their own battles that they faced and overcame.
Laura, herself, seems to me to be a writer that greatly researches whatever she's writing about. Although the book may be a bit long, it is jam-packed with so much interesting stuff that it keeps you intrigued from the opening page to the last page. Once I started reading the book I was obsessed with it all the way through to the end. It transports you right to the time period and the characters. She draws you right into the excitement of each race. She captures the emotions of each person involved in the story. The pictures she added really brings the story to life as well. It caught my attention firstly, because it is the history and drama that surrounds this sport that has been around for many generations. Secondly, because she brings out so much information about the horse that you really feel as if you knew him personally. The movie was nice, but I highly recommend reading this book!
