The Stranger
(Albert Camus)

Publicidade
Originally written in french and later translated into english The Stranger casts a unique perspective on the world. With a Hemmingway type protagonist the book follows a man named Meursault. Camus has an interesting way of writing and introducing the various character of the book. The book begins with Meursault's mother dying. Like any son he goes to the funeral. He doesn't cry and frankly can't wait to get back home so he can sleep. Later he meets Maria, an old crush, and starts a relationship with her. As the book progresses the reader realizes that Meursault is a man who doesn't care for anything expect his basic needs. The fact that Meursault doesn't care about anything expect for his own carnal desires is what eventually places him in jail for murder. The climax is hit at the end of Camus's book where a preacher forces Meursault to look at himself and the type of person he is. This is an excellent book for anyone who wants a different perspective of life and how some choose to live it. Very thought provocing and captivated it can be read in one sitting. I would highly recommend this for the abstract thinker and would give it a 4.5 stars out of 5.
