Her new husband has a meticulous and obsessive nature. He demands her complete obedience and seeks to control every aspect of her life. He keeps to a rigid schedule and insists his daughters do the same. One of his more harmless obsessions is a daily journal that he keeps under lock and key in his study. Quite by accident, Cordelia discovers a diary. In the journal, Michael raves about his first wife?s indiscretions and indecent behavior. He vows to make Elvira pay for humiliating him. Cordelia confides in Leo. Together, they devise a plan to rescue the girls and flee to Switzerland.But first, Leo is determined to avenge his sister. The Viscount challenges the Prince to a trial by combat. Unfortunately for Leo, Michael's concept ofhonor is as strange as his concept of marriage.
