The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
(C.S.Lewis)
Four children: Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy have to spend their holidays in the country in the house of an old Professor. During a play ,the youngest, Lucy, finds a wardrobe, which turns out to be an entrance to a parallel world. She meets there a Faun, named Tumnus, who tells her the story of Narnia, land inhabited by Talking Beasts, covered with snow and ruled unjustly by evil Witch Jadis. When Lucy comes back to our world nobody believes her. Some time later, her brother Edmund also accidentally finds his way to Narnia. But the person he meets first is the Queen, who deludes him with Turkish Delight and orders him to come back with the rest of his siblings. One day, all the four children finally manage to enter Narnia together. Things start happening faster then. Mr Tumnus is captured and the children hide by Mr and Ms Beaver. There they hear the true story of Narnia and Aslan- the great Lion and Son of the Emperor Over the Sea. They also find out they are a part of a prophecy which tells that the reign of Jade and the eternal winter will come to an end when four Sons and Daughters of Adam and Eve sit on the four thrones in Cair Paravel Palace. But Edmund flees, and so only the three remaining children head towards the Stone Table where Aslan is said to be waiting. On their way they can see spring coming and meet Santa Claus, who gives them special gifts: a sword for Peter, a bow with arrows for Susan and a magic cordial for Lucy. Finally they manage to join Aslan and recapture Edmund. But the Witch doesn?t give up. She reminds Aslan of the Deep Magic from the Dawn of Time and her right to the blood of a betrayer. The Lion decides to give his own life instead. Thanks to the Deeper Magic from Before the Dawn of Time, of which Jadis doesn?t know, he rises from the dead the next day, brings back to life the Talking Beasts turned into stone, and helps Peter to win the big battle. After that the children are crowned to the Kings and Queens of Narnia, Peter becoming the High King. They rule happily and in peace over Narnia, until one day, when they accidentally come to the Lantern Waste, a place where all their adventure begun, and cross the border between two worlds. They return to England, seemingly in exactly the same moment when they left it and are once again ordinary children. They don?t try to come back to Narnia through the Wardrobe, but don?t forget their adventure and hope to visit it some time once again.
