This predecessor of the DaVinci Code, is an impeccable adventure novel which Dan Brown handles with masters. The action begins with the mysterious death of a scientist into the hands of an old sect (the Illuminati) whose existence was know only by some scholars. This scientist worked in a sophisticated weapon which disappears. After this fact history is transferred to the Vatican in where the Conclave is developed to choose the new Pope, there he is where he reappears, threatening, the robbed weapon. Adding to this the disappearance of the favorite cardinals to become Pope. These begin to appear assassinated following a ritual with a meaning that few know except the scholar Robert Landong, the same one of the Davinci Code, which is summoned to collaborate with the investigation. A wild race around Rome begins therefore to avoid the death of the cardinals and to find the bomb able to destroy the Vatican and whole Rome. Up to here the basic thing of the argument, the best rest to read it. Although this book has received many critics from its historical inaccuracy, to anticlericalism, I believe that so single it is a book of adventures and in that sense it is necessary to read it. As novel of adventures is perfect, it mixes cultural action, references, conspiracy and an unexpected end. It is in addition to agile, without greater complications . Obvious is not the type of book that changes the life to us, that transforms the way to us to think or that it presents/displays novel ideas to us, is only a book of adventures. It is pure entertainment. So my recommendation is: not to look for the fifth leg to him the cat, simply to lie down, to read it and to entertain themselves awhile, probably you cannot leave it until you finish it. Excellent pair one takes boring of Sunday or for one night of insomnia.
