Pride and Prejudice is a well told family story that will leave an impact on the reader.

Mr. Bennet, a country gentlemen, is the patriarch of the Bennet household?the husband of Mrs.Bennet and the father of Jane, Elizabeth, Lydia, Kitty, and Mary. He is a man driven to exasperation by his ridiculous wife and difficult daughters. Beautiful Jane, the eldest ,is friendly and good-natured and is Mrs. Bennet's highest hope for a good match. Elizabeth is her father?s favorite because of her honesty, virtue, lively wit and level-headed approach to life when his own tiresome wife's greatest concern is to get her daughters married off to well-established gentlemen.
Charles Bingley, young and wealthy gentleman from London, meets Jane at a ball in Meryton and two engage in a courtship much to the chagrin Bingley?s sisters and best friend Fit Fitzwilliam Darcy.
Darcy, heir to estate of Pemberley, is intelligent and forthright but has smug condescension and proud distaste for rural or middle classes as in past one from them-Wickham ?tried to use Dracy?s sister to plunder his wealth. Elizabeth matches his disgust with her own venom and when Wickham, a young sailor speaks, ill of Darcy she develops a hatred for him. However her intelligence evokes an attraction for her in Darcy.
When Bingley leaves suddenly and makes no attempts to contact Jane ,her heart is broken. Elizabeth blames Darcy and Caroline, Bingley?s sister for this. A distant relation Collins, who works for Darcy?s aunt -Lady Catherine De Bourgh, visits Bennets and marries Elizabeth?s best friend. When Elizabeth goes to visit Mrs. Collins there haughty Darcy proposes to her. He dwells more on how unsuitable a match she is and her rejection makes him humble. Snobbish Lady Bourgh is able to sense Darcy?s feelings and humiliates Elizabeth.
Darcy writes a letter to her to explain that he had doubts about Bingley?s seriousness towards Jane and Mrs. Bennet?s undignified, single-minded pursuit of Bingley gave the impression that Bennets were after Bingley?s money .He also writes that Wickham is a roustabout who tried to elope with his younger sister to grab her share in Darcy?s estate.
Embarrassed Elizabeth repents for her initial prejudices. She is send to stay with her maternal uncle and aunt who plan a tour of Pemberley. Elizabeth agrees only after she learns that Darcy will not be around. She is shocked to meet him and he treats her and her relations with kindness. Elizabeth overcomes her personal failings and falls in love with Darcy but is not able to express her feelings to him.
Meanwhile Lydia elopes with Wickham. Darcy and her uncle trace them and Wickham marries Lydia only after Darcy settles off his debts and pays for his commission in a new regiment.
Darcy also propels Bingley to sort out his misunderstanding with Jane and two get engaged adding to Elizabeth?s astonishment and respect for Darcy.
When Elizabeth learns from her aunt that Darcy saved entire Bennet family from disgrace by arranging for Lydia?s wedding she is ashamed of her initial hasty judgment about Darcy and loses all hopes of him after realising he was her ideal soulmate.
Caroline enlightens Lady Catherine De Bourgh about Darcy?s continued affection for Elizabeth. Lady Bourgh goes to Bennet household and in a private conversation humiliates Elizabeth further and forewarns her nephew against marrying Elizabeth. This gives Darcy a chance to sort out his misunderstandings with Elizabeth and their engagement gladdens the heart of Mrs. Bennet. After marriage Jane and Elizabeth lead very happy lives, Lydia realises her folly in marrying Wickham, Kitty grows wiser learning from Lydia misadventure, Mary absorbs qualities of Elizabeth and Mr.Bennet happily retires to his library.
