ILLEGAL IMIGRANTS IN THE LITTLE HEAVEN
As world leaders meet in Scotland, taking decisive actions on how to address poverty in Africa, They forget to consider the plight of illegal immigrants, who are tortured, detained on daily basis.
South Africa, known by many for its natural resources, such as gold, diamonds Platinum to mention a few, and its efficient economic management, is considered by many throughout the world as the little heaven. People all over the world, believe that no matter what problem you have, you will solve it once you migrate to South Africa. It was a windy day, when I was traveling between Johannesburg and Randfontein by train; I came across a young man by the name George, from Zimbabwe, who had just left Lindela, illegal immigrants detention camp, through the back door. Born from a poor family, and also with effects of poorly managed national economy, George decided to migrate to south Africa for better life. He came legal into South Africa, where he was granted thirty days of stay at the border post, like many Zimbabweans, he new that he is not going back to Zimbabwe.
life is never easy, especially in a foreign land where to some extent; you will be left with no option but to beg for food or clothes in the streets. George was so fortunate that on arrival within two days he managed to get a job, in the city of Johannesburg, and all of sudden life was improving for him. Two months down the line, George woke up one day as usual and prepared trip to work, he didn?t know what was waiting for him. Just few kilometers before he arrived at his workplace, a Police truck wavered and stop, next to him, two police officers jump out and ask for his passport. At this hour carrying passport for George was just, like trying to ride on the back of tiger, for his days had expired a month ago. So its better to walk without passport, as it is better that way to create an excuse to the officers that he forgets it at home. Also officers came across similar excuses everyday from illegal immigrants, so it?s not easy for them to accept an excuse. They grabbed George pushed him in the truck, where on board he came across, almost fifty other immigrants, packed, like frozen chicken from a South American farm. George, he was in his way back to Zimbabwe. He was deported after two weeks of detention, and just on arrival at the Beitbridge border he had a plan of going back. He waited till late a night on the other side of the border, at about twelve midnight he crossed the river back into South Africa and seven o?clock in the morning he was again in Johannesburg. For the five years he has been in South Africa, George was deported more than ten times, and he always return back the same night, who is loosing here?
Here on earth because of human greed there are so many people, who are suffering, rejected in other countries like George, reasons being the fact that some Governments, had created their little heaven, but will they take it to God ?s heaven?
