(Louisa May Alcott)

Publicidade
The story of the March family, Little Women, by Louisa Mary Alcott is based on her own life and experiences. The family consists of the four March girls-Beth, Amy, Jo, and Meg, their father at the Civil War battlefront, and their saintly mother, Marmee, as they called her, working to support her family. The girls resolved to face life as saints, trying to overcome their weaknesses, and be good little women by the time their father returned.
The oldest, Meg, learnt to enjoy her work more and fret less about her looks. The tomboy, Jo, learnt to better control her temper, hone her writing abilities and develop feminine qualities. Amy learnt to be less obsessed with her beautiful golden hair. Beth, the apple of everyone?s eyes learnt to overcome her fear of people. All the four worked hard for the next year to acquire these qualities, with their share of success and occasional failure.
A telegram from the war department stating the grave illness of Mr. March disturbs the whole family and makes Mrs. March rush to him. Beth takes over the responsibilities of the household in her mother?s absence but contracts scarlet fever while looking after a baby suffering from the same. Her condition improves the same night Marmee returned, and the family is happy again. At the second Christmas arrived, the girls get another surprise when they see their father return back. Mr. March is happy and proud to see how his daughter have changed over time and become more cultured, well groomed, and well behaved ladies. Meg had conquered much of her vanity. Jo had become a gentle young lady, dressing properly and no longer used slang. Amy now waited on everyone with patience and humor, and seldom gazed at herself in the mirror. As for Beth, her father simply held her near, grateful she was still alive.
Soon Meg gets married and is blessed with twins. Jo reuses to get married to Laurie, her childhood friend and more like a brother to the sisters even after his proposal to her. Eventually Amy and Laurie realize that they share a lot similar with each other, fall in love and get married to the delight and happiness of the whole March family. Jo too finds her match in a German professor who ignites feelings of affection and love in her heart after the phase of depression that she feels on her sister Beth?s death due to scarlet fever.
As the sisters gathered together to celebrate Marmee's birthday, they agreed that their lives were happy, rich and full. The little women had become cultured, confident young ladies. The mother feels happy to see her children and grandchildren with her and how happily they are living. She wishes such moments last forever.
