A History Of The English Speaking Peoples
(Winston S. Churchill)

Publicidade
This literary work has been in published existence since 1956. Written by Winston Churchill, better known as the Prime Minister of England during the saga years known as World War II (1939 to1945), in this literary work he is a creditable an authentic historian, not because he took classes and earned degrees, but because he is the common man's historian who explains the History of the English Speaking Peoples with a simplicity and easily presentable style of delivery that the novice or serious student of history can digest and understand. More importantly Winston Churchill had a love and passion to explain and share his interpretation of the facts of history as he understood them. He understood that the past tells us who we are and how we got here. That we are a link in the long line of humanity that stretches back thousands of years and that today we are still a part of it. What we do with the information is up to us. That I believe is the unspoken challenge that Churchill gives the reader. Its as if he silently says now that you have this background and knowledge...what are you going to do with it? Isn't that what every great writer proposes to the reader?

While it is a fact that Churchill is somewhat bias in his interpretation of the facts and events, he remains insightful in his perspectives and identifies and defines the major building blocks of the english speaking civilization as we have it today. Churchill is no parodist with this literary undertaking. He does not pretend to walk in the footsteps of other historians, but tries rather successfully to educate world citizens of the growth and beginnings of dominate societies with common english linguist roots. To this reviewer this is very important. With the Islamic revolution taking on an ever more dominate presence in world society today, and by that presence casting negative doubts of the viability of Western civilization, it is refreshing to rediscover or for the new reader to discover past new perspectives of positive influences by the English Speaking Peoples.

Starting with Gaius Julius Caesar and taking us on a journey to the dawning of the 20TH Century, Churchill gives us history and background information on a part of the world the we american colonists are only vaguely familiar with. A short but detailed history of our english speaking cousins across the pond with titles like The Tudor's, King Henry the VIII, Richard II, Edward IV are identified and defined with perspective of their places in history.

This work will be a valuable resource to any home library. It is a small price to pay for the wealth of historical information contained in this short collection. Winston Churchill may yet be regarded as one of the best historians of the 20th century.
