(David Mullany)

Life on the Home Front

THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. It?s for you if you are or have ever been one of the following:
A child
A mother
A father
A daughter
A son
A grandparent
An aunt
An uncle
A human being

The front cover of this book is hilarious enough to let you know exactly what is in store for you when you read this book! It?s a housebound father - you see him in an apron with a frazzled look on his face and a mile high pile of plates and dishes, and a crying baby. When I bought the book, my own children were small, and I wanted to know how well a father coped at home all day long ? hoping to laugh, and say, gee I wouldn?t have done that, this is the way to do it! But guess what ? I ended up learning a lot of tricks of the trade from him, and I take my hat off to him.

Dave Mullany, in his own words, started working from home when one daughter was two years old and the other a mere six weeks.

We have the privilege of being ?flies on the wall? in the home of the Mullanys from this time until the oldest girl, Alexandra, is twelve, and the younger, Kendall (OK, I?m with Dave Mullany?s mother, who wrote to him on the birth of the child to tell him that it was not too late to give her a decent name) is eight, and there is an addition ? Kimberly.

Dave tells the story of his home life in hilarious fashion. We are led through stories of shopping expeditions. I?ve had two two year-olds in my time, and I am SO glad I am not alone ? I quote from the book: Alex, at the age of two, spots the toy shelves: Zap! Gone! Kapow! Clutching a doll that looks as though it had been abandoned the moment of its creation. Put it back, I say. You already have two Simpering Sarah Lifelike-Wet-Your-Pants Toddler Dolls with Genuine Synthetic Hair and Little Mother Play-Play Disposable Nappy and Child-Prufe Non-Toxic Safety Pin Accessory Kit at home. This command is followed in true Alexandra style by an extremely loud and exquisitely embarrassing tantrum on the supermarket floor.

I laughed to note that the doll went home with Dave!

The book is packed with anecdotes like this, and he does not hesitate to relate the love that resonates from this family too ? which is what makes it all worthwhile, and which is why we have more than one!.

If you?ve got children, read this book. You will feel like you?re not alone.
If you don?t have children, read this book before you get them!
