A Deadly Shade Of Gold
(John D. MacDonald)

Publicidade
Author John D. MacDonald is famous for his thrilling novels featuring his character, Travis McGee. A Deadly Shade of Gold is no exception. MacDonald weaves a tale with an interesting plot that will keep you turning the pages. His main character, Travis, narrates the scenes as they unfold. If you like a good story with an invincible hero, read this one. Travis has the physical strength and ingenuity needed to face any adversity. His only flaw seems to be his lack of morals in dealing with the opposite sex. In this book, Travis is on a quest to find a missing gold idol. His old friend, who was in possession of several of these idols, has been murdered, and one of the idols is missing. Travis feels compelled, not only to go in search of it, but to find his friend's killer. You'll find in reading A Deadly Shade of Gold that MacDonald uses language common to the time of his writing. This book was published in 1965 and it shows in the character's language. However, that doesn't take away from the book, it just puts you in the time frame that MacDonald and his characters were in at the time. MacDonald wrote 21 books featuring Travis McGee. This is number five. His books are defnitely not politically correct and may be a fresh change from the suspense/thrillers of modern day. The book runs over 400 pages. At times the pace slackens, but will pick up toward the end. If you enjoy the Travis McGee series, you'll enjoy A Deadly Shade of Gold. It's pure John D. MacDonald writing that leaves you feeling you've met with a Sam Spade-type of character. Travis is tough, yet funny. A well-rounded character that is easy to identify with. Try it. You're sure to like it.
