Piercing the Darkess is a sequel to Frank Peretti's This Present Darkness. Be sure to read it first and you'll enjoy this one all the more. The story is two-fold. In one instance, you're following the story of a young woman who is deeply involved in spiritualism and eventually embraces Christianity. You're also witnessing the story of a Christian school as it struggles with demon-inspired leadership. You'll find this book full of suspense and mystery. It will keep you turning pages until the end to find out what happens. Like the first book, this one emphasizes the power of a Christian's prayer. The forces of good, the Angels, cannot operate without good prayer-cover. On the other hand, lack of prayer strengthens the forces of good, the Demons. You'll see spiritual warfare as you read of in This Present Darkness, although not as much. This centers more on the human aspect. This book could be considered a spiritual thriller. Frank Peretti writes about spiritual things in a Stephen King-like way. Although it's a Christian novel, it's a good read for both Christian and non-Christian. It's not preachy at all. Peretti is one of America's most famous Christian novelist. In Piercing the Darkness, he once again shows he is a master of his craft. Peretti is a natural storyteller and it shows in the stories he weaves in his books. When he was young he would gather the neighborhood kids around and tell them stories. His love of stories has translated into several best-selling books. If you've read any of them, you won't be disappointed in this one. If you haven't, read This Present Darkness and then dive into this one. You'll be glad you did. I read this book several years ago and it's still one of my favorite Christian novels. It's a timeless book that you'll want to read again and again.
