It
Stephen King

It was the first novel by Stephen King that I had the pleasure of reading. My first encounter with the story however was during the airing of It the movie. During this time I was actually far too young to actually watch the movie, but of course I had heard of the mortal fear that one Stephen King could put in you. In any event, I stood in the hallway as my brother watched the movie in his bedroom, cajoling me to come inside. This part isn?t scary, this part isn?t scary, he claimed. So I stepped inside to see a teenage boy folded horribly wrong, being sucked into a sewage pipe. His body folded like putty. I screamed, and or course bolted.
Months later I decided that I would read the book, and then watch the movie, having already prepared myself for the horror of the movie with the book. The book, needless to say, scares even fear.
The story begins with several children, who fast become friends because of a mutual bully they share, coupled with their various forms of awkwardness. They begin to have dreams, visions, and all around them children are dying. A monster is living in Derry, Maine, and it is preying on children. (Leave it to King to take that old adage about monsters and children and turn it into something that is horrifying adults!) The children realize that only they together can conquer this monster, and they set out to do just that. After seemingly beating It they vow to each other to meet it again provided they have not defeated it. After all, It only surfaces every twenty-eight years.
From here King gives us a great treat, allowing us to see the children grow up and come into their own beings. However It is back, and ready to battle again, and this time, everyone is not so lucky.
