The Fears of Weldon and American Security
?The congressman, Representative Curt Weldon of Pennsylvania, vice chairman of the House Homeland Security and Armed Services Committees, said he decided "in desperation" to publish the information because he feared the government was not acting on his source's warnings.
"I'm not going to have more of my friends killed because we ignore the intelligence that's been given to us on a silver platter," said Mr. Weldon, referring to the death of friends in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks. "This book lays out one example of what's wrong with the C.I.A."
The assertions of Representative Curt Weldon as reported in the New York Times are not the commentaries of a layman. These are the analyses of a well knowledgeable statesman who cares about the security of America.
We have to face the reality of terrorist attacks, because we cannot just wish them away.
The critical issues of terrorism are based on fundamental existential realities of the survival of human beings in a largely polarized world plagued by self-destructive elements of racial, religious and political conflicts that are deeply rooted in our primordial affinities. These are anomalies in every culture. And the fringe elements of these human disorders will always exist in our communities, because they have become integrated into the main stream of our culture.
The question of Home Security is beyond the limits of our borders. Because, we must know that the external forces threatening our collective existence are more than the internal forces of insecurity.
We must begin to address terrorism from the perspectives of religious, racial and political fanaticism within America and the rest of the world.
The CIA and FBI were responsible for the leakages in our security network that the terrorists exploited and hibernated for years before they launched the attacks on us from our own backyard.
The terrorist network still exists within the US. They have only gone underground to hibernate before they launch another surprise attack in the future.
Are we fully prepared to prevent another catastrophic terrorist attack?
America has enemies and they are all over the world.
How can America keep the ghouls of terrorism at bay?
