I have never read a novel that describes the lives of the characters so similar to my own life and at the same time so different from mine. I read a lot of classics and if you, my dear reader, see the difference between the life of a Garry Porter and the one of David Copperfield then I strongly recommend you to read this masterpiece of human life and feelings. William Somerset Maugham in this novel shows the deepest passion of a human being and the ugliest side of human?s nature when a person tries to realize his or her carnal desires or material aspirations and sometimes forget even about his own spiritual principles. And of course, how could I forgot about our writer who tells us the whole story from it?s beginning to the end, and by the ways takes part in it also. Reading this book you will also get acquainted with many others interesting people: from whores to painters and solvent young women. The writer will show you the world in all its colours and from all its sides and you will see how people choose the path of their life, and maybe something will change in your own perception of the world and you will understand the boy or that girl you fall in love with but meekly love.
