Paul Julius Reuter, the founder of Reuters, set up a carrier pigeon service around 1850. When he moved to the UK, in 1851, he opened a telegraph office near the London Stock Exchange. Initially, his services were confined to commercial information. But soon, more and more newspapers began to subscribe to his service, and Reuter diversified into other services. The major breakthrough came in 1859, when he sent a dispatch for shadowing a war in Italy. Since then there is no looking back, and Reuter is now regarded as one of the most reliable and most reputed global news agencies in the world.Reuters Economic service is the largest international Commerce and Business news service. It is today a commercial company quoted on the London Stock Exchange. It is listed as one of the leading UK companies and is one of the world?s largest media enterprises. Reuter supplies news to its clients including other news agencies, newspapers, and the radio and television stations under different categories. Besides Economic news, there are different services like news picture, TV news and more. News is collected from around 160 exchanges and markets. It has a wide network spreading the all over the world. The network consists of thousands of journalists, photographers and cameramen, who operate through more than hundred bureaus in different parts of the world.Under the present form of ownership, a public company, Reuters claims that it can ensure that no particular interest group or faction can have control. Consequently, it hopes to preserve its integrity and freedom from bias. However, these claims are questioned by many third world countries.
