Fight Club
(Chuck Palaniuk)

Publicidade
As usual, the book is always better than the movie and Chuck Palaniuk's Fight Club is no exception. In this dark satire, a disgruntled young man, vexed by his mundane life and job, befriends Tyler Durdan, a movie projectionist and banquet waiter who is bent on diminishing past history and the social status and line of order in the modern American culture. Tyler then devises a plan to start an association called Fight Club, which would be held in the basement of a bar. At the club, men of all ages whose discontent for their normal lives and vocations and needed a way to let off their frustration, could get together during the late hours of night and fight each other. That is when Tyler meets Marla Singer, a self-destructive and woebegone woman who goes to support therapy groups so she can feel better about herself through other people?s pain. Then Tyler outsets a venture called Project Mayhem, where the members of the fight club go out in groups and perform small acts of rebellion, across the city, such as putting bumper stickers on cars that say Drunk Drivers Against Mothers and stealing the fat from liposuction operations from hospital dumpsters and making soap out of them. Soon, the deeds become more dangerous towards the members of Project Mayhem and the citizens of the city. Tyler becomes so bent on annihilating history that no one can stop him, not even Marla, even though she had become the object of Tyler?s affection. That is when Tyler leaves the house to start the most terrible scheme he has come up with yet, and if you are a member of Project Mayhem you cannot ask questions and you have to trust Tyler. Written in the style of author Ian McEwan, who writes in a deep and thought provoking way, Fight Club is a mix of dark humor and dry wit, which makes is easy to tell why this book became an instant classic. With a fast paced plot and a blend of unique and intense characters, this book kept me hooked from beginning to end. Fight Club was based on a fight author Chuck Palahniuk had gotten into over his summer vacation and from its success, he wrote four other satires and two nonfiction books. The way the characters deal with their problems and each other made me feel as if I was there at the fight club and a member of Project Mayhem. This book is best for people who like dark, yet somewhat ridiculing books and also for people who want to see what it is like to live in the darker side of America.
