Lady Chatterley's Lover
(D.H.Lawrence)

Publicidade
D.H.Lawrence(1885-1930), courted controversies. Be it ?The Rainbow? & ?Women In Love? which were considered indecent, or ?Lady Chatterly?s Lover?(1928)- his last novel - which was banned & dubbed as the filthiest book ever, by the critics. All this hullabaloo in today?s age of permissiveness may seem misplaced; but in 1928 when the book was first published, it was labeled as pornographic & was allowed legal circulation only after 1960.The book tells the story of Lady Constance Chatterley, trapped in a loveless marriage. Her husband Clifford Chatterley is a battle scarred & wheelchair bound individual, dependent on his wife for everything. However, the monotony of her life begins to take it?s toll, and she is desperate to break free. Her brief affair with an Irish ?artist? comes to nothing. Just as she was falling back into nothingness, along came George Mellors - the gamekeeper- an answer to all her prayers. He is a sensual lover, who sweeps her off her feet, & it is through him that she finds her salvation.Lawrence considers ?the flesh as being wiser than the intellect?. Only when we live life in unison with our primal consciousness, we will be able to achieve true happiness and fulfillment. This is the underlying theme in ?Lady Chatterley?s Lover?.D.H.Lawrence besides being a prolific writer ? in a literary career spanning 19 years he has written numerous novels, short stories, poems, essays, and much more - has himself been a subject of innumerable researches, so much so that ?he seems more like an academic industry than a writer?.
