Psalms
(The Bible)

Publicidade
The book of Psalms is a collection of songs or chants found in the Bible. In the English versions of the Bible, there are 150 psalms. King David is credited with writing most of them, with a few possibly being written by Moses, Hezekiah, and others. The psalms were used in worship ceremonies by the ancient Hebrews, and were often memorized and passed down orally. They were chanted, sometimes accompanied by music and dancing. Jesus often quotes from the Psalms in the New Testament, showing his familiarity with the Old Testament writings. Many Psalms are meant to give comfort. The most famous example is the 23rd Psalm, which speaks of the Lord as a shepherd who watches over his sheep. Others speak of the majesty of God. Psalm 19 tells us about the glory of God and the perfection of his law. Other psalmstell ofGod's wrath being showered down upon those who do evil. Psalm 1 tells that the ungodly will be blown away like chaff in the wind. Even today, after thousands of years, the book of Psalms is regarded as some of the best poetry ever written. Some psalms are written as acrostics --most famously, Psalm 119. There are 176 verses in this psalm, grouped into stanzas of 8 verses. Each stanza begins with the same letter of the Hebrew alphabet, going in order through all 22 Hebrew letters. The book of Psalms is a beautiful book, whose wisdom still has application for us today. Most of the psalms are short and can be read in just a few minutes. They are beneficial to read quickly on a surface level or for deeper study. The Psalms can be a wonderful source of information, comfort, and inspiration to those who read them.
