Psalms
(The Bible)

Publicidade
Psalms is statistically the most popular book of the Bible. Statistics tells us that people, Christian or not, who choose to read the Holy Scriptures, choose to read Psalms rather than any other book. It is also known that Psalms is read more frequently. You see, a lot of Christians choose to read the Bible for their daily devotion, and if they have to choose a place in Scriptures that they would like to meditate on, it will most of the time originate in Psalms. So what makes this book so popular? There are several important reasons. But first let's look at the facts that are available to us about Psalms and its writing. You see, Psalms is not just one writing. To the contrary, it is a collection of many small writings, 150 to be exact. Who wrote them? All of the psalms (allow me to use the lower case when I am referring to the writings themselves, not to the title of the book) are not written by the same author. There are different authors involved in composing psalms. However, most of them are attributed to David. Just a snapshot at David. David was historically the best king in Israel (if you do not count his son Solomon). He conquered the most territories in all the history of the land for Israel to dwell on. He is also known in the Bible to be God's "favorite" man. Not that God only has favorites. However, David is known to be "the man after God's own heart". It is also true that Messiah is prophesied to be in the bloodline of David. Even today, the Christians, who believe in Messiah, talk about his "father" David; and the Jews call themselves David's descendants. Bottom line is: David is still popular. And even more so are his writings--the Psalms. Well, it is not important to study other writers of psalms. Let's talk about the book or the writings themselves. Psalms are met to be songs. Some of them are songs about God, some of them are songs to God, but definitely all of them are songs about man. Psalms talk about man in his relations to God, other human beings, friends and enemies, and most importantly life itself. There are products of human emotions and human life experience. Whatever is going on inside a human heart that day,is putin a song. Moreover, we are not just talking about any man's heart, we are talking about a heart of the king. Would not you be interested what King Henry the 8th thought on any given day? What about the king who is arguably one of the most well-known kings in history? So king David put his thoughts and feelings in songs. That already makes Psalms interesting to read. Plus it is the wisdom and optimism of Psalms that is even more amazing. You see, David has been through a lot. Name the most difficult problem you have ever been through in your life: sickness, betrayal, adversity... David has been there, done that, wrote a psalm. What makes these songs amazing is that no matter the difficulty and the complex human emotions David was going through in apsalm, the ending is always happy. In other words, every psalm is like a boost of energy to a human being who needsone to survive. In conclusion, read Psalms, at least read one, and you will get addicted. They will encourage you, they will lift you up, they will give you hope, and most importantly they will make you want to see the next day. Read Psalms and live happily ever after.
