The Lion, The Witch And The Wardrobe
(C.S. Lewis)

Publicidade
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, by C.S. Lewis, is the second of the seven books which make up The Chronicles of Narnia series. It is also the most famous of the seven books,; a fact which might have much to do with its TV and film dramatisation. The novel begins with four children - Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy - being evacuated to the English countryside during the Second World War. Arriving at a rambling, old house they set about exploring and Lucy enters the wardrobe mentioned in the title. This wardrobe proves to be the entrance to the magical kingdom of Narnia; a land ruled over by a wicked witch who instils terror into the hearts of the kingdom?s population; a population made up of woodland animals and mythical creatures. Narnia is a once beautiful kingdom now trapped in an endless winter, a winter without any Christmases. But there has been a prophecy; one which states that the witch will be overthrown by four humans - two boys and two girls - who will then rule over the kingdom. With the help of the noble lion, Aslan, Mr and Mrs Beaver and even Father Christmas, himself, the children lead the citizens of Narnia into battle against the witch and her evil army.It is not difficult to see why this book has become a children?s classic. C.S. Lewis has conjured up a truly wonderful kingdom, full of magic and superb characters. The plot itself, whilst simple, moves along at a rapid pace and there is enough action, suspense and surprise to keep any child enthralled. Though a land of fantasy populated by talking animals, fauns, unicorns, dwarves and centaurs; the reader is drawn into a world that immediately becomes very real and into a story of four highly believable brothers and sisters. I would certainly recommend this book to anyone with children and to anyone without - you can always pretend you?re buying it for a nephew or niece.
